Victoria Embankment

Victoria Embankment is one of Nottingham’s best-loved open spaces, running alongside the River Trent between Wilford Suspension Bridge and Trent Bridge. The wide riverside promenade and sweeping lawns make it a favourite for walkers, runners, cyclists and families, with plenty of benches for watching the rowing crews and river traffic go by.

At its heart sits the Grade II listed Memorial Gardens, opened in 1927 to commemorate the city’s fallen, with its stone archway, ornamental beds and quiet, reflective atmosphere. The neighbouring Rose Gardens come into their own through summer, and the parkland hosts some of Nottingham’s biggest outdoor events, including the Riverside Festival each August.

Just a short walk from the city centre and moments from the City Ground and Trent Bridge cricket ground, it’s an easy spot to reach and a genuinely pleasant place to spend an hour or an afternoon.
