A countryside ramble and a well-earned drink: our Southwell Circular Walk

Affinity members made the most of a lovely Sunday afternoon with our Southwell Circular Walk, a relaxed four-mile loop through some of Nottinghamshire's prettiest countryside, rounded off with a drink at The Final Whistle.

We gathered at the Southwell Trail car park just after one o'clock and set off along the old Southwell Trail, a peaceful former railway line that winds its way through the countryside. It is an easy, mostly flat route, which meant nobody had to work too hard and there was plenty of breath left for chatting as we went.

Our host Tünde had everyone introduced and settled in no time, and anyone who had come along on their own was soon part of the group.

The route took us out to the little hamlet of Maythorne, where we paused for a short break at The Old Lodge overlooking the fishing lake, before heading back along the picturesque River Greet with its lovely riverside views. It was the kind of scenery that makes you glad you got off the sofa on a Sunday, and a couple of well-behaved dogs came along to enjoy it too.

For those who fancied it, the walk rolled into an optional drink at The Final Whistle, the perfect way to round off an afternoon in the fresh air. Sitting down together after a good stroll is always when the conversations really open up, and a few of the group were already talking about which event to come along to next.

Meeting new people, sharing great moments and creating memories is what these afternoons are all about, and Sunday delivered all three in the Nottinghamshire countryside.
