Sunshine, Spice Girls and great company — Proms in the Park, West Bridgford

Affinity members joined thousands of others at Bridgford Park for one of Nottingham's best-loved free summer events - the award-winning Proms in the Park, held each year to celebrate Armed Forces Day.

When we arrived in the early evening, the park was already buzzing, blankets spread out on the grass, drinks and snacks in hand, soaking up everything the night had to offer. With a full programme of live entertainment across the day, there was plenty to enjoy. From performances by the Nottingham Concert Band, Nottingham Youth Band and the Lady Bay Soul Collective, to the high-energy mashups of Britain's Got Talent 2024 finalists Northants Sings Out.

But the headline act was always going to be the talking point. The Spice Girls Experience - heralded as the UK's No. 1 Spice Girls tribute - delivered exactly what you'd hope for: a full-blown trip back to the 90s, complete with Spice Up Your Life, Who Do You Think You Are? and all the girl power that comes with it. Singing along with a crowd of thousands in a park on a warm summer evening is hard to beat.

It was a relaxed, joyful kind of night - the type that feels effortless. New faces getting to know each other, familiar ones catching up, and everyone just enjoying being somewhere brilliant together.

Some members carried the evening into town afterwards to join fellow Affinity members for the England match at The Loxley - a perfect double-header of a Saturday.
