Bluffs, accusations and one almighty twist: our Blood on the Clocktower night at Barley Twist
Affinity members gathered at Barley Twist on Thursday evening for one of our most gloriously suspicious nights yet, Blood on the Clocktower with a Twist. Seven of us joined the rest of the attendees in the cosy Carrington Street craft beer bar, and by the end of the night nobody quite trusted anybody, which is exactly how this game is meant to go.
For those who have never played, Blood on the Clocktower is a social deduction game, a cousin of the old Werewolf and Mafia favourites but with far more character. A Storyteller runs proceedings while everyone else takes on a secret role, some good, some quietly working for the demon in the corner. The whole thing plays out through conversation, careful questions and the occasional bare-faced lie, and it turns a table of near strangers into a room of amateur detectives within minutes.
Our host Adam had the group settled and briefed in no time, which is no small feat when the rules involve poisoners and fortune tellers.
There were gasps, there were groans, and there was one very smug winner who we will not name but who knows exactly who they are.
A big thank you to everyone who came along and threw themselves into the intrigue so wholeheartedly, and to Adam for hosting so brilliantly and keeping seven suspicious minds in order all evening. Barley Twist proved a perfect setting for it, all brickwork, good beer and just the right amount of atmosphere for a spot of scheming.
Meeting new people, sharing great moments and creating memories is what these evenings are all about, and Thursday delivered all three, one accusation at a time.
Keep an eye on upcoming events and join us for the next one.
